THE EXCHANGE

Yesterday, the shop held its first tarot centric gathering. It was a gathering for people to bring and trade used decks that they didn't personally connect with.

A customer, Naomi, had previously suggested this activity as a way to strengthen our disconnected community.

It went well, however, with the personal events of the week unfolding as they did- I wasn't as prepared as I would have liked. I didn't have a spread prepared and I didn't have the astrology of the moment ready for an in depth discussion.

The astrology being: Venus retrograde and the Hammers of Thor at work. But I did remember an astrologer explaining that this Leo Season was based on "UNCOMFORTABLE GROWTH".

So. Naturally. I broke the ice by announcing the theme of our Three Card Pull to be "UNCOMFORTABLE GROWTH".

I've since discovered that this can immediately be awkward as people feel insulted by their cards and those at the table might not be sure how to comment on the directness of another person's discomfort. Shit.

Fellow attendee saved the day when she held out an oracle deck inviting the first Reader to pull a fourth card - a spiritual support card.

After the first round of self reading, the table blossomed with discussion.

Decks were shown off. Decks were exchanged. Self Readings were commented on with a variety of perspectives and symbolism explanations from all in attendance.

The experience level varied from FIRST TIME PAGE to ACE CARD STATUS. It was an educational and bonding experience for all in attendance. I am greatly appreciative.

NEXT TIME NOTES:

  1. An in depth spread should be prepared

  2. Current astrological forecast should be considered for opening discussion

Possibly consider: Closing the event by focusing on one card and it's symbolism for open discussion.
